Rainforest Foods Bambeanies is now available to buy from Sainsbury’s stores

We have been a leading partner with Rainforest Concern since Rainforest Foods’ inception, over a decade ago.

Rainforest Concern is a UK registered charity set up in 1993 to protect threatened natural habitats and the biodiversity they contain, together with the indigenous people who depend on them for survival.

Every box of Bambeanies sold will fund the protection of 4 square metres of rainforest in the charity’s reserves, including the Neblina Reserve in Northern Ecuador.

Rainforest Foods is widely recognised for its responsible sourcing of baobab through its work with EcoProducts, who employ over 1,000 women from local communities who all make an income from harvesting the baobab fruits.

EcoProducts’ Dr Sarah Venter established the Baobab Foundation that provides education for the children of baobab harvesters, and supports the conservation of baobab trees. Baobab’s local nickname ‘the Tree of Life’ seems appropriate given its range of vital nutrients and source of sustainable income for deprived communities in South Africa.

Rainforest Foods also has an ethical sourcing policy and have signed up to the UN’s Global Compact Food and Agriculture Business Principles.

On the front of pack we have decided to adopt traffic light coding so it is easier for customers to understand the nutritional profile at a glance.

The nutritional figures on the front of pack show the amount per serving, however the colour of traffic light is based on the per 100g figures.

Please note: the amber boundaries are quite wide and in particular for sugar, Bambeanies falls in the first third of this bracket. Be aware that other brands may contain over twice as much sugar as Bambeanies and still display an amber traffic light.
